Three Types of Housing Options
When you’re ready to make a move, there are three main types of senior housing options:
- Maintenance Free Homes – Typically part of homeowner’s associations, you can purchase a single family home, townhome or condominium where the maintenance is handled by others. This choice is ideal for those who want freedom from home repairs and chores like maintaining a front yard.
- Independent Living – This residential option is for seniors desiring a leisurely, hassle-free lifestyle with a sense of community and belonging. In addition to maintenance-free living, other services available may include social programs, transportation services, organized outings, shopping trips and limited medical support.
- Assisted Living – These facilities provide residents with a separate living unit and offer healthcare and social benefits. Many retirement communities provide assisted living services, allowing residents to live as independently as possible. Persons desiring to live as independently as possible can receive help with bathing, grooming, meal service, medication reminders.
